Zero Frets

Simple question - why aren't zero frets ubiquitous or at least more common?

Seems like it would be a way for manufacturers to not have to worry about being so precise with nut cutting and wouldn't have to leave the nut cut very high to allow for the user to adjust to their preferred height.

Are there downsides?

I think you can get problems with them wearing.  When that happens they get low, and you get string buzz.

    Makes fitting Earvana nuts problematic.

That’s what I did with my zero-fret Gretsch. I got a full stainless steel refret done, but I also had the option of just getting the zero fret converted to steel
