Custom Shop Gibsons getting rarer

What's Hot
Is it just my imagination but it seems to be hardly any about these days. Ones that are, are being bought up by 3 or 4 dealers/traders....shame. There used to be some great ones on here. Not griping. Market forces and all that. Just an observation

Harley Bentons mate. All that’s needed is a pup swap and badda-bing

I think their strategy has been to reduce production and hike the price up to make them more exclusive.

There’s probably plenty hung on walls but unfortunately less in the hands of gigging guitarists.

I tried some Eastmans and bought one of them instead.

Don't seem to be so many semi hollows around - I regret missing out on the bunch of '61 RI 335s last year

a new R9 is like £5500 now, and I thought £3500 only 4 years ago was mad.

Never a truer word spoken. ;)

However if you WANT a Gibson R8 or whatever, you will never be happy with anything else.

yeah. I am that person. Have had two R8's and a R9 over the last 30 years love em but stupidly sold them when not gigging. Sold my last R8 for £2250 to my best friend which was what I paid but biggest change is CS Fenders ...I sold a 56 3 years ago for £1300!

I'm wondering if Gibson and Fender new prices are now so high that people are not buying as many. Therefore people are holding on to the old ones.

Feeling pretty smug about my £2.5k R8 as well, although I regret not pulling the trigger one one of the interesting customs that GuitarGuitar had just before christmas.

For once I have bought something that has then gone up in value. Well for twice actually, as I am lucky enough to own two CS Gibsons, both bought used. On the other hand I have no intention of selling them, so not that much of an advantage after all!

They’re keepers. Hard to find better if it’s what you’re into. I’d like a CS special/jr and a 335 to round off the collection.
