I snapped the headstock off this about 2 years ago. I repaired it and put it away. I dug it out today and forgot all about how good it is.
If your into mid range bark then this Recording King Nick Lucas will do nicely

Anyone else have great stuff lurking in cupboards?

I've played my Stonebridge (Furch) OM quite a bit the last week or so after not playing it for a long time.  It's so good I'm half thinking of selling my Martin.

I don't remember it sounding quite this good.  Don't know if it's because it's got a bit of age on it now.

Do the same with your Martin and you may flip back

I've got a '71 Martin D12-35 in my music cupboard. I very rarely play it, but every time I do I remind myself why I shouldn't ever sell it, even though I sometimes think I could just get a cheap 12-string and pocket a grand or so.

I do try to keep strings fresh on most things, but sometimes I get into a few guitars and forget the rest. I decided to get out some different stuff this morning for some work I have to do this week and ended up with these two Northwoods seeing the light of day for the first time in a while. TBH I had pretty much forgotten about the one on the right which I got in multi guitar deal a few years ago. Having restrung it and played it today, it's quite nice and a bit different. They are both designated 00, but the one on the left is pretty much a traditional vintage take in Englemann / braz rw with koa binding, it's great for a small body having loads of sustain and punch without sounding boxy. The other one, I haven't played that much though I am realising that it has possibilities. It's a 12 fretter but with what looks more like a square shouldered, albeit reduced body. It does have a deeper body though which is interesting in the bass dept. These Northwoods are really nice guitars (made in Canada), I have another that I need to get out and restring etc which is a braz OM that I gigged a lot and is showing a few scars and wear.
Last week the forgotten guitar I got out was a Lowden 032 which got used on a couple of bits of work.

I've just dug out my Loar LH300 which has been pretty much ignored since I got my J-35, I'd forgotten what a really cool thing it is.

All mine are criminally neglected Monday morning to Friday evening, as sad as it is.

  • It must be 6 months since took my Martin 0-16 NY out of its case. And at least 3 since I played my L'Arrivee. I seem to be playing my Brook all the time. Memo to self.... :-)

This month I dug out my acoustics to rehearse with a lounge singer. One of them hadn’t been played for six years, and the other for much longer. It’s taking a bit of re-learning. Here’s me trying to play the Taylor 414 with fingers which are used to electrics:

Hah! We both know it doesn't work like that. I get it out of the case to check it's OK before shipping it to you, play a few bits  and then decide to keep it. Again. And play it constantly for a few days until I'm distracted by something else.  I've got a Ric 330/12 in the same category.

Not in a cupboard but under the bed in the spare bedroom. A 60's J45 and a 70's SJ that haven't been played for probably 15 years. I open the cases maybe once a year to look at them and a sniff at that lovely vintage aroma.

Good question, and one which i can't really answer. This subject has been discussed a few times on tFB. I play about on a £200 acoustic (that i really like) and don't really want to play them. I've got several decent electrics as well that i've actually never played. I suppose it's all about just collecting and no different to someone who collects paintings or watches, stores them away and never looks at them. I've not got any other hobbies so why not? Others may choose to spend their money (and lose plenty) on flash cars.

It’s not a criticism. I’m fully with you. I have a few unplayable guitars that I’m completely happy just owning

Dobro 32H or something like that, metal body roundneck spidercone, could be a 33H, memory isn’t what it used to be.

Here's one which I picked up and played for the first time in ages the other day. It hasn't been locked away in a cupboard - but it looks so nice it has been a very attractive wall decoration - a very rare Aria 2010'ish replica of a steel strung 19th century parlour guitar. Solid spruce top, solid rosewood back and sides, ebony fingerboard and bridge - and it plays beautifully and sounds great, if a little quiet. I've only ever seen one of these for sale before - and that was the nylon-strung version (somewhere in Devon for around £1,000).

2 electrics, 3 acoustics, 1 classical, 1 gryphon, 1 bass ... yet I'm playing drums in a a 3 piece at the mo, so that's taking up must of my music time.

I manage an acoustic night in the pub every couple weeks, but, the rest have been unplayed for months
