Set List Inspiration

The current covers (3 piece) band I’m in is stuck in a rut on what songs to add to our set list, and in need of inspiration to add new songs to freshen up our set list.

Currently we play a variety of rock songs....with the current set list including Nothin but a Good Time (Poison), Wishing Well (Free) through to Walkin by Myself (Gary Moore),  Love Gun (Kiss), Rock the Night (Europe) amongst others........basically anything that is fun to play and listen to

Ideally we want to add around another 10 covers to freshen up the 30 (ish) songs we already have, and ideally looking  for relatively ‘quick wins’ that are not too technically demanding so we can added them sooner rather than later...

Any recommendations?

(assuming that you don't already play them )

    Tush by ZZ Top
Rocking in the free world by Neil Young

And a little more modern would be Figure it Out by Royal Blood (or loads of others by them)

A few we do that seem to get people going and a bit different from the norm:
Frantic rocky version of the Rezillo’s version of “Glad all over”
“Delilah” with singalong and heavy bits
    ”Le  freak”
And “Pretty Vacant” to name a few
    all good fun.

Thanks....our aim has always to do mainly 80s rock to be slightly different to the covers band currently on the circuit.

We have a few of the above in the set already such as ‘Sharp Dressed Man’, ‘Crazy Train’ and ‘ain’t talkin bout love’......and strangely we’ve found ‘Lick it up’ does not go down well with the punters for some reason......

  • Not all 80's, but seeing as you do some older stuff anyway:

    The Cult - Wild Flower/Lil Devil/ Rain/ Fire Woman
Thunder - Back Street Symphony/Love Walked In/Dirty Love
    WASP - Wild Child/ Aminal/ Forever Free
    Ratt - Round and Round
    Motorhead - Ace of Spades
    Bowie - Rebel Rebel/ John, I'm Only/ Moonage Daydream/Jean Genie
    The Doors - Roadhouse Blues
    Foreigner - Juke Box Hero
Journey - Anyway You Want It
Pseudo Echo's 1987 Rocky Version of Funky Town
    Queen - Hammer to Fall
Rolling Stones - Start Me Up
Scorpions - Rock You Like a Hurricane/No One Like You
    Sweet - Teenage Rampage/Ballroom Blitz
    Terrorvision - Oblivion

    If you have Keyboards:

Cutting Crew - Died in Your Arms
Eric Clapton - Behind the Mask
Faith no More - From Out of Nowhere
Loverboy - Turn Me Loose/Working for the Weekend
    Marillion - Kayleigh
    Tubes - She's a Beauty

Bit of a mixed bag, I admit  :#

  • A few more

Status Quo - Whatever You Want.......any Quo goes down well I expect
    Golden Earring - Radar Love
Free - My Brother Jake.......You could work around the Piano bits
Steppenwolf - Born to be Wild

I had a bit of Planet Rock on in the Van today. Good idea would be to go onto "Recently Played" on P.R Website for a few days and things will be presented to you rather than scouring your memory for songs.

Drop Wishing Well in favour of Fire and Water as it's a bit boring . If your bass player is up to it Mr Big is fantastic.

    Rory Gallagher, Shadow Play.
    ZZTop Jesus Just Left Chicago
    Lynyrd Skynyrd Simple Man
Purple Rain try Aynsley Listers version, simpler.
