Substitute rosewood on Epi fingerboards

My mate bought an Epi 335 Dot today (new) which we’re really impressed with.

Does anyone know what they use for the fingerboard at the moment? It looks lighter and shinier than rosewood, almost as if it’s had some sort of finish applied, so I’m not sure if lemon oil can be used or whether we should treat it like maple.

Check epiphone.com for the specs.  They’re usually there, at least to that extent.

  • On the Dot Deluxe page it says Pau Ferro. On the standard Dot page it doesn't actually have a material reference for the fretboard.

  • Thanks all - it would appear to be pau ferro comparing it to pics. It’ll be interesting to see how the grain comes up with some oil.

On a side note, the Epiphone stock pickups have come on leaps and bounds since the early-mid 00’s when I last tried some.
