Saw a cort the other day

What's Hot
I've not seen a cort for ages. Always associated them with, well, not good kit, but this was a fanned fret 7 string and looked really nicely put together. Has anyone got a cort?

Really piqued my interest, it was a quite ugly colour (weird blue burst - I usually love blue bursts but this looked a bit sickly) but seemed nicely made.

Some lower-end stuff feels like it's made of balsa wood. However they make some of the Ibanez line so I'd assume their metally stuff is of a similar quality.

Cort's Indonesian plant manufactures instruments for numerous well-known brands. These all have a characteristic fingerboard tumbling and fret finishing in common.

Cort own brand instruments suffer slightly in comparison to the "name brand" designs. They have to avoid infringing copyrights and trade marks. Having said this, the Cort Action, Squier MB and one of the entry level Ibanez/Soundgear are, essentially, the same instrument with different headstock outlines.

Can't speak for the brand in general, but I got one of the Manson spec'd Cort teles last year (http://manson.cortguitars.com/ms-classic.php) and it's a great wee guitar. Flawlessly built, comfy, plays great, sounds great. Fantastic wee guitar for the money (~£400).

IIRC John Mitchell (It Bites, Frost, Kino, Lonely Robot, etc.) has a Cort signature guitar which would suggest that their higher end models are pretty good.

I play a Cort Masterpiece which is a sort of Custom Shop job, kind replicating a PRS CU22 vibe. It's a nicely put together guitar. Came with seymour duncan pickups. Very comfy neck. Bought it about 15 years ago, without really knowing what the brand was.

I think it's a really nice guitar for the money, but don't see a lot of them going round. My picture doesnt really do a good job of showing the flame, though

@LuttiS has got one I had a quick go on and it's a lovely through neck natural wood thing.

If I saw one in a shop I'd buy it.

I'm a Cort fan. The good ones are incredibly good for the money, the lower end ones cut cost and are a bit naff.. quality control isn't amazing.

    I own 4 of them...

2 x X6s - first one I owned was one of these, gigged with it for years, fantastic guitar. Got another one as a back up,A same model. Absolute dog of a guitar.. hence quality control.

Other two are 2016 limited edition ones - my profile pic and this NGD thread -

The X-ltd 16 has probably one of the nicest necks I have ever felt. Everything about the guitar is amazing.. (except the emgs.. but that's a personal preference and easily changed) . For a sub £500 guitar it is well worth the money. Easily on par with ibanez prestige range.

The last few years Cort have released some really interesting stuff, and the higher end of their stuff is really good. I've seen the fanned fret 7 strings and I've heard nothing but good things about them.. especially for the price.

Live he plays his PRS Santana SE’s though.

thank you! I had been looking for a through neck fixed bridge Ibanez for a while but there aren't many.

One of my NAMM highlights was the KX 300 Etched Red guitar. One of the best finishes I've seen in a production guitar, ever. Not a fan of the 3 a side headstock but the finish is stunning.

  • I've got a strat type hss thing that I got for £45 on fb marketplace and other than the humbucker being underwhelming, it's really good. Transparent teal, good quality tremolo, roller nut, string trees, superb fret work, straplocks etc. Very comfy and playable.

I used to have a Cort MGM sig guitar that was very well put together and sounded great. I’d easily have another.

He used to play the Cort all the time, maybe they only gave him one and he wore it out?  ;)

My local shop stocks them, ProSolo in Burnley.

Haven't tried a bad one yet - the quality of the electrics is at least equal to the same priced Ibanez guitars made in the same facility.

They have a G290 Fat and a lower end Tele in atm and they are both flawless.

I suspect they may have had a warning from G****n recently as they've dropped the CS Custom and the Source models - I regret not buying both whilst they were still available.

A friend bought a slim, solid  Mahogany top acoustic electro from them a year or so ago. Again, flawless and a wonderful little guitar.  Much nicer in all respects than the Yamaha equivalent.

    Definitely a fan.

  • My local shop(s) also stock quite a lot of them. If they're flying off the shelves here in Japan it might explain why there aren't so many making it to Blighty. I've been tempted by their Manson on several occasions, but you know how it is -- too many guitars, too little space/money.

  • I've got one of the Sunset Series baritones.  Gretsch-y looking, TV Jones Magnatrons, good hardware, feels well put together, sounds and plays great...I like it a lot.
