Can anyone advise off a 335 type guitar that gives a good clean sound for Country!

I’m liking the sound of the D’Angelico Excel Mini DC. No idea if they are any good but this model has Coil Tap to get Tele Tones. Looking at the specs, I’m a little put off by the 16  inch Radius fretboard, bit too flat for me but maybe it works.

I’d have to chip in Eastman T486B, 335 alike with P90s and Bigsby. Totally capable of out twanging most Teles.

  • Value-wise, I would say keep an eye out for a mid 90's (ish) Korean Epiphone Riviera with mini humbuckers. I've seen a couple where the build quality was excellent. Mudpie in Brighton had two in 4 or 5 months ago priced at 699, to give you a rough idea of dealer price, but they didn't hang around. Good luck with your search.

I play a fair bit of country, and I usually take any 2 of the following:

    Tele
    Strat
    Gretsch Duo Jet

I've also been known to use my Ivison LP Junior repro - there is precedent for this in the form of Frank Reckard:

EDIT: I realise I have done nothing to answer the OP's question here!
Frank with his B Bender Gibson, sounded just like James Burton with Emmylou Harris.

How about a Westone Rainbow? Matsuamoku made (Japan) from mid to late 80s. Great build quality. Usually have some form of MMK pickups (prob 75s at a guess)

I have currently been looking at the Ibanez JSM10
Very nice guitars.  I had one for a bit but gave it back to the seller as it had an undisclosed headstock repair.

Nice guitar though, brighter and twangier than a 335 so could be the ticket.  Nice pickups from the factory too, super 58's or something.   I liked it.

    the pickups vary
I had a Heritage one that was warm, then a 2015-ish Gibson that was very crisp sounding
    Same with Ibanez and PRS,
basically (as with solid body), you can get bright or dark pickups

Yep. PRS DGTs aren't bad with volume knob turned down as are 339s
