Does it have to be an original finish? You could buy a less collectible version and get it refinished by one of the guys on here. From personal experience @lamf68 does fantastic work and could get the colour period correct (and even relic it, if that’s your thing).

I already thought about re-finishing my black SC-1000. But the guy I asked wanted 1500 £ for that. So I said to me - no way. Get an original and then sell the SC-1000.
Get in touch with Rich, the member name I highlighted. Shouldn’t be anything like the price you’ve been quoted. ;) He’s a lovely guy to deal with too.
    This. Rich’s work is brilliant
As much as I like to do this - problem might be that I sit here in Frankonia, Germany, and it might be a little too much with the back and forth… what do You think? And is Rich member @lamf68 ?

Why would you refinish an SC1000 , which is a million miles fro an SG of any spec ? The only similarity is "Yamaha" on the headstock. Not sure that i have grasped your logic here..

Sorry, my fault, typo. We are talking about an SG-1000, not an SC-1000 (is that a real Yamaha model, too?). Picture here: https://fachliteratur-my.sharepoint.com/:i:/g/personal/adrian_vogler_fachliteratur_onmicrosoft_com/EQKhowwRBkFKoYc9QMr68TgBx45xSLXFHH8PMIhhWK01Kg?e=uBuU4d

Oh right, sorry about that, I understand now. Yes the SC1000 is a Yamaha model too. There have been a couple of series of SC guitars from Yamaha, a short run of strat style guitars fro approx 3 years from 1979 and a later SC which harked back to one of Yamaha's offset shapes from the 60's/ early 70's

Here is my SC1200 from 1979.. Basically a through neck strat style guitar with hotter than a strat single coils which can be individually switched off/on and also in or out of phase ( I'm thinking about changing that to give me some in /out of series options. It also has a lovely ebony board.

That's beautiful. And at least from here I can't feel the weight ;).

This might sound far-fetched, but I think a good friend of mine who sadly passed away last year might have owned Stuart Adamson's actual one, unless anyone has better information as to where it went. He bought it from Sound Control in Dunfermline in the late 80s, after Stuart had switched to Moons - it had a lot of play wear and tarnish on the bridge etc, buckle marks on the back - it was in nowhere near as nice condition as your one even back then.

Neither of them are with us any more, and the guitar was long since sold on anyway, so there's no way of knowing really unless someone has another one with the provenance.

It did weigh a ton too!

I would say that £1500 to £1800 would be realistic for a decent condition SG2000. £1K is either wishful thinking or for an example that is to all intents and purposes a well knackered project guitar.  I picked up this sunburst "83 in decent all original condition a couple of years back for around £1600-£1700 ( It is exactly like the new one I gigged back in the day). The other is my 3000 for which I paid peanuts compared with the current optimistic prices out there. I also have an SC1200 which I love.

As others have said, avoid at all costs, the guy with multiple users names and locations (usually North East England or multiple regions in Scotland. The giveaway is that all the photos are of the same guitars and all his customer endorsements have FB accounts with no guitar content ( some with no content whatsoever. He is the kind of bedroom dealer wannabe that give decent folks a bad name.

Japan would be a good shout bearing in mind the proliferation of SG's on dealer websites.

Here's my two. Got my first SG2000 in the late seventies and still love them.

Hope you get the one !

This is a new shill campaign on the main Yamaha SG facebook group, and other groups, that point to this site .

    The Usual Suspect, naturellement...

This time aided by an omni present Kool-Aid drunk acolyte, acting as both the frontman and over confident and under informed, distinctly non reticent, mouthpiece. You can't really comment on the FB groups without this guy jumping in. For example the other day he claimed Johnny Marr's guitarist had an SG2000, even as the guy who actually sold it stated it was a 1000.

This is someones NGD thread, basically, so I don't want to go full strength.

It's a sad sad situation and it's getting more and more absurd.

PS That goldtop 3000 is lush

The more people who can be made aware of this guys antics, the less chance that a) someone is ripped off b) folks do not get sucked into the belief that his pricing is remotely realistic ( not just on SG's, everything he tries to blag his way towards selling ). Some of his, supposed, facts that he puts out regarding models, features and history is absolutely woeful. I feel sorry for those who get sucked in..
