Focusrite Saffire Pro 40 still a viable option?

Any issues with this I should be aware of?

As long as you can get Firewire working reliably, should be fine.

Thanks, what would prevent it from working reliably?

Well, does your computer have Firewire built in, or would you be using an adapter?

Built in. Making music via Windows is a new experience though.

OK cool. Some Firewire chipsets on Windows machines have historically been better than others for audio. If you visit Device Manager it might tell you which one you have (ideally, the Texas Instruments chipset).

You need to have one of the reccomended firewire chipsets..safest bet is Texas Instruments for your firewire bus. I have a pro 40 as my home interface and its USB cousin the scrlett 18i20 for a portable one and I generally feel the saffire is a little more solid drivers wise.

Unfortunately my unit is about 9-10 years old and now occasionally has issues getting FW sync when I first power on so it might not be long for thsi world. In all honesty I probably woudlnt go firewire new just because support for it is so hard to get on PCs now but if you can pick up a pro40 second hand at a good price is a great unit.

Thanks, I’ve decided to leave it, I’m not familiar enough with PC recording to risk problems with hardware. I’ll put the cash towards something a little more recent.
