This one can be had for not that much second hand on Reverb. I haven’t used one myself but I have a Pettyjohn Predrive and the high and low pass filters are immense.

Thanks everyone. I can hear that they make a difference but am still not convinced an EQ pedal is for me. I’m thinking I'm going to leave it until things are a bit more normal and then go and try a few out.

Sadly, (and I know I won’t be alone in this) not getting out to play means I’m spending far too much time on the ‘net gassing for stuff to relieve boredom rather than because of any real need.
I play guitar because I enjoy it rather than because I’m any good at it

You and I have very different definitions of "not that much" if upwards of £150 for an EQ pedal doesn't count :D

The original poster said a budget of £150, and there is one currently on Reverb for €159 with €20 postage but the seller is open to offers so in total probably a bit less than €150 all in if someone was to pursue it.

Of all the pedal types to skimp on, an EQ pedal is not one of them - cheaper = noisier.

I recommended the Pettyjohn because they are a brand that don’t hold their value on the 2nd hand market. The new prices of their stuff are definitely in the eye watering category

As I mentioned, I recommend a cheap one like a Behringer EQ700 at circa £20 just to play around and experiment with. After that, if you found it noisy ( mine is actually quieter than my Boss GE7) then by all means then invest in a better unit.  It's pointless spending more until you're convinced that you like an EQ and feel an upgrade is worth it.
I started out with nothing..... but I've still got most of it left (Seasick Steve)
