fretboard finishing

What's Hot
ok so i have a raw guitar neck all nice and clean ready to varnish

what do you guys do? do you use the same varnish on it as the rest of the neck, or tape it off and do something different

my first build i just finished i satin varnished the neck and kepy the fretboard raw with just a few coat of lemon oil, it plays well but does feel a tad gnarly, like i built it in my basement

up next is a strat i have the body finished on but need to do the neck, want to try something different

nice one!

There are lots of other woods. Rosewood and maple are by far the most common. The conventional wisdom is to leave rosewood fingerboards unfinished. Oil them sparingly of dry, but otherwise leave then alone.

  • ah ok sure, thats what ive done with this maple board right here, feels a bit strange

would the conventional think for maple be to varnish it like the rest of the neck?
