The Lockdown mixing challenge

Should give you something to do during lockdown...

This is about getting a good mix from what is available, so no "re-recording parts" but feel free to use or not use the tracks available...

If you want to join the fun, send me a DM and I will provide you with a link to the raw tracks.

Send your submissions to mix@thefretboard.co.uk as an mp3.

Voting will start soon after the submission deadline of 25th May 2020 with each voter selecting their 1st, 2nd and 3rd choice.

First choice gets 5 points - Second choice gets 3 points - Third choice gets 1 point

Voting will end on 11.30pm 31st May 2020

The order and scores of the top three entries will be announced soon after the voting ends. If there are 8 or more entries, then the order and scores of those in the top half will be announced.  

No prizes. It's just for fun.

As people submit their entries, I'll post them in the playlist below. Hopefully we can share tips and tricks on how the mix was achieved.

Sent mine in.  So many things I wanted to do … that I nearly always do, like gate the shit out of the kick and snare and slip a sample in for cleanliness … but, that's not allowed!  And the feel of this track is way more lofi and groovy than my normal.

Plus after effectively raping the last track I did for a mix challenge, thought I'd play by the rules this time

Bit of a heads up.

$50 for a couple of days. If you are mixing on cans etc it’s cracking... it’s IR’s of the abbey road main studio. Gives you their monitors in your cans.

it also connects to your webcam and tracks your head, when you move the sound moves accordingly.

paid for this morning and can’t get over how good it really is!...

plus you get a freebie from them when you buy... I got the abbey road plates... excellent reverb!...
