Had a go at Somewhere Over the Rainbow..

So with the kids doing things for school/county/national orchestra for NHS tributes, it gave me an idea to have a go at one of the pieces they have done, mainly to get to grips with logic/garageband and also to keep up my playing!!

What recording does do is highlight sloppiness and has given me something to work on!! so here it is - warts 'n' all - constructive criticism welcomed - I know I'm running far too much gain..

You know what … I don't think you are running too much gain, I liked that contrast to the piano a lot.

Its a song that's been done to death so brave to give it a go! Very Beck like approach which I enjoyed.  A few moments I think you sort of ran away from yourself, trying to put too many notes in a couple of sections and tripping yourself up.  Only a couple of moments though and the rest of it I really liked.  Kept to the melody and played around it, good work man.

And a gargle is always the best way to finish :)

Great arrangement and execution; I too air this song from time to time, as it has irresistible harmonic logic and for all the cheese sometimes sprinkled over it, the melody remains exquisite

    Good job fella.

With my picky head on I'd echo what Bezzer said about the odd meander but on the whole great melody and I thought the tone was spot on

That sounds great to me. It's an an iconic song. I like the difference from the calm and rather soothing piano style to when the overdrive rock guitar part comes in. You're hiding your light under a bushel my FB friend.

Lovely and some Lukather treatment there, too.

Nice one and lovely phrasing and sound.

Can I ask what you're using guitar and gear-wise?

Thank you all for your very kind comments!!

@Kebabkid I used one of my LIII’s (the HSS one), a Mesa MKV with a Fractal AX8 in 4CM which was pushing a cab sim into Apogee. Pretty much it really.

Reminds me a bit of Steve Vai's "Christmas Time is Here"
