Help/advice please

So this was a Mexican poly coated sunburst which had loads of chips/dings.
I managed to remove all the poly with an Opinel knife (giving myself a fairly nasty stab wound in the middle of my hand) and sanded it down with 70 grit. Still a few light scratches in surface but it’s come up nice.

My questions are....what grit shall I use for a final sanding....and what should I use to finish it ? I have no special painting tools or experience. Just want a coloured stain I think..
Any advice chaps ?

Could be a job for Wudtone.

James Oliver of this forum has a Fender Vintera ‘72 in a custom colour (and with a WBW scratchplate!) that is anachronistic but who cares?

Shell Pink, Goldenrod or the Mary Kaye style Blonde options would all work.

A clear Natural would look historically correct. The golden grain filler stuff would set it off nicely.
You say, atom bomb. I say, tin of corned beef.

Ha, I've just done exactly the same, stripped the sunburst finish off my MIM '72 Custom Tele with a hairdryer and credit card, came off pretty easy.

I've bought some 240 and 320 grit sandpaper for a smooth finish, and i'm going to use the amber stain from Wudtone that arrived only yesterday, as going for that classic 70's natural wood finish. Never done this before, so a bit apprehensive about starting, but may have a go at the weekend.

I'll watch this thread carefully for tips...

With so many comparison web sites out there, how do I choose the best one?
