Cheap Strat Upgrade Project

I posted about my LPJ style build project yesterday. Thought I'd share another side project I've started as well

Picked this BlueRock cheapo strat up in a charity shop for the princely sum of 9.99, the finish really glows, picture below does it no justice so I couldn't resist:

Plan is to go for an approximation of this:

I don't have a strat or anything with single coils so thought it would be fun project. Going to leave the body as is but give it a it a bit of a clean (workspace needing a clean too :3)

Plan is:

  • Iron gear smoke stack II pickup set
  • Follow this wiring kit so push pull pots with the smokestacks
  • 2mm white side dots and 8mm MOP inlay dots to replace the 6mm ones on the fretboard now.
  • Graphite nut
  • Wilkinson Trem
  • Sand down neck and refinish with tru-oil

So far the neck has been rough sanded down

Fretboard doesn't look bad with some conditioner on.

Did an experiment with cocktail stick side dot but yea, I'll get some proper sidedot material.
