Just checking you DID mean for Bass.
For guitar I have a whole different bunch of suggestions.

Yup did mean for bass. Nordstrand huh? Never heard of 'em!

Bass Gallery were completely unhelpful when I emailed them about this. So they're not getting my business.

  • I asked a similar question a while back, and I think this is the nicest bass metal tone I've heard, regardless of which 'genre' of metal it is.

Whatever he uses and a darkglass preamp!

Otherwise, I used to get a really nice bite from my old Musicman 3 band active eq and humbucker.  Can't test my Bartolini P-Bass pickup yet as I don't have tuners for the bass, but I suspect being hum cancelling, all I'll need to do is wire it and keep the tone control up :)

Honestly? You don't need high output for metal these days, given the amount of gain on tap in modern gear. I'd say go for some mid-output pickups - say, 14k bridge and 9-10k neck. I find they give you more definition (particularly at the low end) and dynamic control than higher-output stuff.

I actually have an Oil City pair in mine - NightFighter in the bridge (13k) and Scrapyard Dog in the neck (7.5k). Nobody's ever accused me of not sounding heavy enough.

Also...try to avoid ceramic magnets. I've noticed a slight increase in acoustic sustain (subjective, mind) since I swapped out the original bonkers ceramic pickups I had in my S2 for the Oil City alnicos.

Are you talking guitar Lee, or bass? Confuzzled.

I'm a dick. Came from Recent Discussions, didn't spot the category.

Yes, that's right. I can't even use the forum I helped build properly.

hahahahhaa. It's okay. Tony is still around so at least someone knows what the piss is going on!

I'm actually good for guitar pickups. Although I do think I wanna replace my pots, but that is a guitar discussion ;)

I hope you appreciate the fact that I didn't just sneakily delete my post and your quote of it to hide my stupidity ;)

Nordstrand are now the standard fit in a lot of Ibby SR premium basses.

The have a real depth of quality to the sound. When I have some more money I'm going to take out the delano's in my Marleaux and load it with Nordstrand Big Singles

I was thinking Seymour Duncans. You think the Nordies are worth the extra?

I like them a lot, and I also like SD Quarter Pounders a lot.

Get down to a local shop that stocks Ibby SR1200 basses and have a listen!
