Headstock decals & finishing

What's Hot
I've just received a lovely new decal from Rothko & Frost, but then noticed that it's apparently not compatible with the tru-oil that I'd planned to use with it. Rather than spending ~£40 for sealer, tinted lacquer, and a topcoat, is there a one-shot method I could use instead with these, or has anyone had success mixing the decals with tru-oil anyway?

I normally wouldn't mind spending the money, but it's the only neck I'm likely to refin any time soon and it's only a Squier bullet one anyway so it feels like it's barely worth the expense!

it wont stick to an oil finish very well.  I tend to lacquer the headstock face even when doing an oil finish for this reason.

you don't need sealer, tinted lacquer and a top coat on a maple neck.   I would just get one tin of light tint and use a couple of light coats of that before and after applying the decal.

Perfect, that's what I was hoping for - seemed like overkill otherwise! Cheers Wez :)
