Back in February, an Am Pro owner and I had the opportunity to make a direct A/B comparison involving my AV’65. The other guy preferred his Curtis Novak pickups over my stock Fender ones but had to admit the AV neck profile and my Staytrem modifications made the AV play more nicely than the modern interpretation. Conversely, I could not get on with the modern neck profile, big frets and selector switch location.
My point is that the Am Pro is a completely differently ride to any vintage-flavoured variant. The stock V-Mod pickups make nice sounds but these are more like a fat Strat or a Gibson Alnico than any Jazzmaster. Thus, this model is no substitute for the traditional JM experience.
I know @GoldenEraGuitars makes superb JM bodies. Anyone else?
FWIW, I wouldn't do this with a CS guitar.
