Not that I have an eBay habit, but do these kits look ready to disappoint players (especially Balanced neck pickup users)?

Look "ok" but you will have no idea what the neck pocket will actually fit when it arrives.

Really? The pup cavity offset to the neck looks horrendous to me (unless they shouldn’t be central??)

The single most critical factor in constructing a guitar of that design is the accurate drilling of the holes for the bridge and tailpiece threaded inserts. Get those wrong and the £43.99 kit body might as well go in the bin.

The neck tenon is asymmetric, the neck- pickup alignment should be fine.
