Real vs Clone

Yeah, I've always found the demos of dumble type pedals to be uninspiring and just sorta... Well, boggo low to mid gain overdrive.

However, the simble does genuinely sound like a very interesting pedal - and oddly enough, it does seem to model that magical d style amp that has never interested me tonally.

See TS pedals are always a hit and miss affair with me. The first one I tried was a Super Tubescreamer which belonged to my old drummer. Sounded incredible, but not worth the crazy used prices.

Next I owned a Jap TS9 with a JRC chip in. That with a Marshall and the SG, just worked. Stupidly sold it.

Then bought another TS9 which had a Toshiba chip in, sounded really meh.

Then had a Big Knobs TS808 clone, which again i didn't bond with.

Then bought a Jet Driver....meh and have now bought another Jet Driver again meh. All i need is a TS9 with a JRC! Ahh!

I always thought the reason for a copy, was convenience and not risking taking a valuable item to a gig. Also rarity of components etc?

I don't really mind the tone, but I'm never convinced that it's not, as you said, pretty much bog standard type of tone which can be achieved with a whole heap of different amps (or pedals). Yet the dumble fans act like it's impossible to attain...

Maybe I just don't get it. Admittedly it's not really my main type of music.
