Reading reviews last night on GoodReads/Amazon & both seem to be rated highly. Just wondered which book would you recommend for starting to get more into writing my own songs? Are both worth getting? Or do they cover similar ground?

Originally I was thinking about getting his “How To Write Songs On Guitar” book, but will hold fire on that for now, as a revisited edition is due out shortly.

I've got HTWSOG and the Sourcebook but not Chordmaster. I like Rikky's writing style so it'll be good. I think I could have made better use of the books but the examples he uses for sequences are often the lightbulb moment for me. He updates these for subsequent editions iirc (a lot of Britpop in my copy).

I have his book on melody and some articles on the Beatles and they are very good.

I'm away from home for a while but, from memory, I've got Song Writing Sourcebook and How To Write Songs On Guitar. One of those books has a useful table of chords for pop and rock, which starts with the diatonic chords, then adds common additional non-diatonic chords. I think it might be How To Write Songs On Guitar.

I have the Chord Master .. worth the money IMHO.
