Thanks for the speedy shipping on the paint btw @SteveRobinson, any pics of your Coronet?
I've managed a bit today. I've started my own thread rather than hijack yours

Well then, its been a while since I last updated this thread. Mainly because I had to call ambulances for my aged parents just before Christmas, both with C19. Then I tested positive! Anyway, they're both at home now and I'm fine.

So, its not one of my builds until its been at least two different colours....

I think the burgundy mist looks quite fetching with the bound neck and inlays. I also bought a lightweight wrapover tailpiece from this 'ere parish, rather than use the pot metal lightning bolt one I had. Tomorrow I will carve the neck; I'm undecided about scalloping the headstock curves at the moment, seeing as it's such a mish mash of styles. I'll shoot a quick coat of black and see how it looks with hard edges.

Hope you're all safe and well!

That looks fantastic. I liked the blue as well though. Great work.
Glad you all feel better after the covid.

Starting to get there on the neck - Shinto rasp for the main part, then some cheapo mini-rasps from China which are actually dead handy for the heel and volute.

Worth pointing out (or is it?!) the volute on the above is the same principle as the one below, but I slimmed it down somewhat. Not sure what I prefer, depending on your fretting technique the larger one *may* get in the way for an open E, but it looks pretty. Here is is on some flamed cherry:

As an adult with ADHD, I have immense impatience and an almost uncontrollable spontaneity. That said, I think the Coronet has found its last colour:

Black just looks more 'right' to me than the lighter metallics; clearly the finish above needs a clear coat and buff etc. Thoughts?

    Cheers

Starting to look a bit like mine is further up.  If you go with a black scratchplate they'll be twins!

  • Good Lord, it's been a while since I've updated this - been setting up a new company specialising in short term property lending which is as time consuming as it is boring to describe.

Anyway, I hacked away a bit at the neck today to get it in better shape::

All being well, I'll final shape, sand and grain fill tomorrow and glue it in on Sunday. Oh, I also need to cut the angle into the heel - I typically do this by clamping it in a vice at the correct angle and planing off the excess. Going to cut an angled neck pocket in my neck build, to see if thats easier.

    Have a great weekend all.

Looks great. I’ll be that one odd duck though that think that burgundy metallic looked killer!
