Post reaction buttons . . .?

What's Hot
so many posts on TFB elicit reactions other than Wow, LOL and Wisdom.
Could we not add ‘Nah!’ and ‘Me too’ buttons to the template?

  • We used to have Facepalm but it got used just to follow individuals around the forum being negative.

I'd probably replace them all with a simple Like button. I think the problem with not having any buttons is that Discussions become cluttered with Me Too type posts. But this is well trodden territory on here.

"Me too!" is basically "Wisdom" (as in "I agree").

We couldn't have "Nah!", because - as a negative reaction - it would be misused and misinterpreted, as history tells us. Far better to force people to actually verbalise their disagreement, in order to provide context.

So if I read this right, would I be correct in saying that a ‘WTF’ button wouldn’t get the green light either  :3

    That's what 'WOW' is for!

I quite like the ambiguity of each button (or at least two of them), as it's often as revealing about the poster (or oneself) as it is about the person using the reactions.

LOL:  someone genuinely found this funny / someone is mocking me with a "Yeah, right"
Wow: this post is fantastic in a good way, or shocking in a sympathetic way / What the fuck? What kind of a mentalist are you?
Wis: I have been educated / I learnt nothing, but I agree, and therefore you're a genius

Yeah Snags, I get all that, and agree that the ambiguity can be fun.  However, sometimes you just want to give a straight reaction without going into reams of explanatory narrative ( and long words, like this).  Obviously we don’t want rows and rows of buttons, but a couple more might be nice.
    Jus sayin . . .

At least now people can see who is the culprit. No more stealth facepalms

New buttons would only encourage Fret hoes.

    That's what 'WOW' is for!

Varies according to subforum and post content.

Post a picture of your nice shiny new guitar/amp/pedal/plectrum etc: "WOW that's nice"

Post a picture of the hideous "custom" guitar you found on eBay: "WOW that's ugly".

Post an opinion: "WOW you're an idiot"

The problem sometimes is guessing which "wow" someone meant.

We couldn't have "Nah!", because - as a negative reaction - it would be misused and misinterpreted, as history tells us. Far better to force people to actually verbalise their disagreement, in order to provide context.

We already have that problem with "LOL" and "wow". Who knows if adding "Nah" would make the problem worse, or just distribute the same amount of negativity across three options instead of two.

Or just don't put it there and live with the mystery.

Don't talk politics and don't throw stones. Your royal highnesses.

I've got 90% LOL. I think becuase of a 'well priced' post or two (all of which have sold!). It feels a bit unfair... but I still love this forum.

wow = you’re an idiot, you’ve made me laugh, that’s a stupid idea
