USB-C to lightning cable rather than camera connection kit?

I have a USB mic on order (Rode NT usb Mini) which comes with a USB-C to standard usb cable.

As I’m using an iPad Air 3 which only has a lightning port I also ordered a sturdy looking 3rd party USB-to-lightning cable which is (seemingly) certified to power devices.

I’m now reading that I should use Apple’s camera connection kit with the included lead - is that literally just an adaptor (and hopefully the lead I’ve ordered will do the same job) or does it do some sort of voltage conversion or whatnot?

I really don’t fancy shelling out an additional 50% of the cost of the mic on a clunky lump of plastic. I might as well have gone for an Apogee if that’s the case.

Edit: oh hell. I’ve ordered it anyway - turns out it will allow me to simultaneously charge the iPad while using the mic, which I will grumblingly admit is quite useful, even if the mic turns out to work with a standard lead
