Long shot, any decent ones out there that haven’t been molested through the 80’s with floyd rose trems and humbuckers scattered throughout?
Sunburst ideally for a strat, custom colours are out of my price range, may consider refin if it’s otherwise original.
Thanks

knows the guitars history. Let’s see what crops up, if anything.
And
Most of the bad ones have been put together with parts.
But good luck with your search :-)
Agreed. There are some great ones out there, it’s just finding someone willing to part with it. The idea of stripping something with such history is a terrible thought
Winterflood. Not that they are the only ones.
A player with minor changes was fine for me, so long as the pickups and finishes are original. Having a dilemma over refretting or switch replacing an otherwise pristine original is not a position I want to pay a premium to be in - I'm always going to choose having the guitar playing properly. The longer you own it, the more likely intrusive maintenance becomes. There can never be a guarantee whatever you buy does not have age correct replacement parts like tuners or saddles, where swaps can be made without detection, unlike switches or pickups where resoldering is a telltale, or finish work.
I have a 65 CAR, where I learnt after years of ownership that a previous owner had changed the green pick guard for an age correct white one. Do I care? He was able to demonstrate with old photos the worn finish, which I was confident of, was unchanged since 1995, when fakes were rarer and give details of previous auspicious owners. Assume there are at least minor changes and price accordingly.
Good luck with the search. Good vintage is very rewarding.
I also picked up a 65 last year and feel that it’s just a great guitar to play and I want to pick it up, something I often don’t get from custom shop guitars.
I’ve got guitars that are practical, nice but practical. These 60’s ones aren’t always about practicality but about a want for an old, well travelled guitar that feels right when you pick it up.
