Looking at his discography on Wikipedia, it seems his peak success was a good dozen years ago.  I reckon he'd be desperate enough now for a bit of prime-time TV exposure.

They were deliberate red herrings.  When the Hoddle clues were so obvious though, you don't expect the misleading clues like that.
