Upgrade from M-Audio BX8 Monitors

Have had these monitors for a while now. And they do sound great, certainly when listening to spotify, BUT
My son has recently gotten some Pre-sonus 4.5s.
Whilst they don't have the bass depth of the BX8s, they have so much more clarity at the top end, but with lack of bass sound a bit unbalanced.
Is it worth upgrading the BX8s or would I have to go to a much higher budget to get any real benefit.
Use case. Casual listening and recording guitar/bass with vsts for drums/synths/strings/brass, etc
