I've got stuck hating and amp and sold it before only to realise it was the room it was being played in and it was too close to the wall which accentuated the low end.

Ive had a similar experience. An amp sounded shite in my practice room until i moved it and added more fabric to the room. Now sounds brilliant.

Thanks to all for the suggestions.

I've gone with a magnatone with the usual sensational service from Peach. I've gone with the mono twilighter and I have to say, the cleans are ridiculous.

I was going to suggest Mesa Mark.. I love mine for rich, big cleans..  And everything else.

i am not sure how different the California Tweed is from the Mark Series or 6L6 Lonestar.

I run mine up at waist height on a rack.
