NMRD. (New Mix Room Day)

NerineNerine Frets: 2164
Recently I decided to move and make some upgrades to my room.

Here’s the end result. It sounds great in here.

There’s still a few things I want to tidy up, and I need to get the lighting right etc, but generally I’m very pleased with it. It’s been quite a labour of love and has cost a little bit more than I wanted to spend, but even so. It’s far superior to my old room. And is larger. And it sounds really good for vocal tracking, which I’m pleased about.

Looks a bit professional/functional for my liking (and levels of dedication). There aren't anywhere near enough distractions. I'd add a Marshall Stack beer fridge, a pinball machine, a sofa and a stack of porn mags.

Beauty is in the eye of the beer holder

    My trading feedback  - I'm a good egg  ;)

Nice! How does the low end work out in there? Do you have any treatment on the ceiling?

Better than I was anticipating. The soffits and tri-traps have made a huge improvement to my previous room.

No treatment on the ceiling. I do have another couple of panels spare. I might put them up at some point.

Sounds really good in general though and if it’s not broke...

My monitors are DSP controlled Genelecs. 8240A’s - so I have them calibrated with their AutoCal system. Measurement mic in the mix position, sine sweeps etc and a resultant corrective EQ curve. So that help takes up a little bit of slack that I might not be able to get from treatment alone due to the size of the room. I think there’s a bit more to the software than that, but you get the drift. The before and after results are quite pleasing.

Everything’s translating well, and I feel like I can really feel and hear the low end on everything much easier now. They’re pretty large speakers for near fields, though so aren’t lacking in low end anyway.

They look small in the pic but I think it’s because the Mac screen is so large.
