odd this, tbh, because voices are not the first thing I usually listen to on records.
"Working" software has only unobserved bugs. (Parroty Error: Pieces of Nine! Pieces of Nine!)

Some good ones already. The ones that do it for me are usually the ones with little technical ability but a lot of character, so would add Neil Young, Michael Stipe, Wayne Coyne (The Flaming Lips)

Natalie Merchant singing "Ophelia" has a quality that I find sublime.  She's a good singer but something magical happened the night she she recorded that.  A song she sang called "Noah's Dove" when she was with 10,000 Maniacs has a similar quality but that's more melancholy, not so intense.

Dolorean.  I've forgotten the name of the singer but his voice... I love it, because it expresses perfectly the emotion.  You feel that connection.

I want to think of someone with a happy voice!

  • Aside from the others mentioned above (Marriott, Rodgers, Buckley ect.) I've always liked Daryl Hall for some reason... I heard "Man Eater" on the radio the other day and it blew me away.

She did and also had a duo with another folk guitarist, Clive Gregson.
Her live solo album is terrific and she's definitely one of the UK's unsung heroines!

Clive used to be a regular customer at my friend Arthur Bird's music shop, 'Guitar Player' in Rochdale (which closed in the early '90s). He bought a green custom built Tele from there - which IIRC correctly, was made by an English builder - I can't remember who.

I saw him (with Christine Collister) on Richard Thompson's 'Daring Adventures' tour playing that guitar.

Ah the memories are flooding back... I'll just open another Werther's Original...
