Beginner jazz guitarists in the Chilterns area

I've noticed in musicians wanted ads that noone seems to be a ropy jazzer looking for amateur ensembles to faff about with in the same way that "rock" or neodeathmathcore folks do. A shame... how do people learn? Is it just like being a very hungry caterpillar, waiting to emergy as a beautiful butterfly after years of practising tricky 13th chords on your own?

Anyway, I am a bass player fighting with a new fretless bass and if that could be of any walking bassline accompaniment benefit to people conveniently around the Amersham area, give me a knock.
