Try Crafter or Guild. They make guitars with a wider nut/fretboard for finger picking.

Remember, it's easier to criticise than create!

I assumed you were after a steel strung guitar .. a classical guitar will meet your needs albeit they are nylon strung. For the money Yamaha are a good bet. I started life playing classical guitar ... a long time ago mind.

I was/am after a steel-strung guitar, the " I'm pondering one of these as an option too " was meant to suggest that the nylon might work as an alternative.

The Vintage Gordon Giltrap signature has quite a wide string spacing. Or you could get Mark D Philips to knock you something up from a knackered 12-string.

I could probably manage something along those lines myself ;)

That ebay item number is one option, and there is a somewhat cheaper one there as well.
    Worth a look?

  • Aha yes, yet another person on here who knows everything about my guitars without ever seeing one... I must teach myself how to know all there is to know about any guitar without ever needing to look at it close up... I guess it is all about just needing to believe everything anyone on here tells you to believe?
    ps.
Is your thread really so delicate?

He did some excellent work on my main Tele a few years ago.

I trust Paul implicitly; others, less so.

  • Depends on how you define cheap.
The Vintage range has a few lovely wee parlour models which make great finger pickers- V880 springs to mind (can be had for less than £100 second hand) higher up the range I have a Brett 12, but played the 6 a LOT in the shop- I believe it has the same nut width as the 12, but with half the strings. It's LOVELY. (£300ish new, don't know about secondhand- they don't come up often).

Can't comment on the neck as I haven't tried one yet, but the Sigma 000m15 is on my to try list. All mahogany made in China to standard Martin 000 dimensions. I think it's the Martin Carthy influence but I always have 000 size guitars in my mind as benchmark fingerstyle guitars.
