How did the Pharaoh and LSTR compare? The LSTR has more gain/saturation and voiced for more high end, right?

    What's that, John?

  • I feel old.

I haven't got a clue what any of you are on about.

Should I restart my subscription to Smash Hits magazine?

Whippersnappers and their beat combos, I can't keep up.

@Flanging_Fred heavily influenced and a continuation of the first five Black Sabbath albums.

That Sleep song is really more like Om's sound rather than old school Sleep..

Not surprising then as Om were Sleep without Pike for a quite a while :-p

But yea It does feel more Al led (which I like). We have HOF for all the sleazy and greasy Pikeness.

REALLY looking forward to the new HOF if Slave The Hive is a good indication of the energy.

not sure if i like the new Sleep song...I have to admit, I am much more looking forward to the YOB album.

@Lew The LSTR was cool...it had a lot more gain than the pharaoh and also, had the Scoop knob, which meant you could make it sound a lot like a Muff...and also had a lot more high end to it than the pharaoh. The reason I went from the sarcophagus to the standalone pharaoh is because, when I want that much gain I prefer what I get from the QM, and when I want Fuzz, i want less gain and thicker fuzz.

If you wanted to get another one of his pedals...the Ritual is really really nice.

another good builder is Moose Custom Electronics, from Ireland. He does a couple of really nice pedals...the Grouch and the Dobsky Fuzz...

@samzadgan I could happily own every BAT. A Black Sheep/Revelation duo would be great.

Yarp, ditto. It'd be great if it was more Unreal/Motion than Cessation/Atma with the long drawn out phased sections that go on forever and more spiritual feel.

    Have you heard Middian?

    I'll check the vids tomorrow.

Not sure if this counts but it's kind of a Sunn 0))) spin-off, so I'll mention Khanate, who are pretty fucked-up sounding.

The most jarring contrast in my iTunes library could well be when Kelly Clarkson finishes and "Wings From Spine" screeches into life.

I'm always a bit uncomfortable shoe-horning bands into boxes labelled doom/stoner/psychedelic etc (especially since I probably get most of my labels wrong...), but I love some of the more melodic bands who (I think) fall under that umbrella.

Current favourites are Blood Ceremony, Mount Salem, Royal Thunder, Kadavar, Elder, Windhand, Orchid, Witchcraft, Sienna Root, Earthless, Avatarium... the likes of Electric Wizard are a bit heavy for me although I do like Sleep.

Haven't got a bloody clue about gear, though.

Warning - Watching from a distance. Probably the best doom album of the last 10 years

  • Did I dream it up, or did I really read that Sunn 0)))) or whatever they are called have done an album with Scott Walker, of Walker Brothers fame...?!

Also, again it is stretching things a wee bit, but I heard Danzig's How The Gods Kill on the radio the other day and enjoyed it far more than I ought

  • Not a huge listener, but I've seen kyuss, qotsa, Sabbath and Ghost live.

Wouldn't listen to ghost, but they are interesting to watch.

Kyuss was great. And Sabbath were pretty fantastic!

Still, I love qotsa and are the only stonery kinda thing I listen to regularly. I'll check out some of the bands listed :)
