You've seen us play then! :)

(Actually, we've finally worked it out at the last couple of gigs!)

Tina Turner’s version of Proud Mary always went down a storm… we used to break it down in the middle and build it back up, sent everyone crazy at weddings

I would think so, although I always loved Wilson Pickett its hen night popularity was mostly down to that bloody awful Commitments film, which is pretty much unknown to the under-50s.

@Roland I have a feeling that Mustang Sally and other perpetual crowd pleasers like Steve Harley's "Make Me Smile" (Come up and see me) have begun to die away, even though Make Me Smile was featured in a Viagra TV advert as recently as 2018.  Normally that kind of exposure from increasing obscurity rekindles interest.

I found an online set list for one of the bands I saw. Reminded me that they did Gimme Some Loving which didn't really get any response. This was to a fairly mixed crowd I suppose, in our fifties we'd have been amongst some of the older people there. I think Mustang Sally, Alright Now,etc, more for those care home gigs these days.
The event was actually headlined by The Hoosiers. They got polite applause for everything then this almost sigh of relief and excitement when they did Goodbye Mr A. Although as that sounds a lot like Mr Blue Sky maybe people thought it was that. So, one of those two for a crowd pleasing hit.

    Lol @ "care home gigs".

Generational gap a fair point though, I may have a nostalgic twang for the UFO classic Doctor Doctor but many modern punters weren't even born.

  • When Philakapip was on here he played care home gigs. They wanted The Beatles and that era. My parent's generation was pre rock and they were quite happy with Vera Lynn songs but that's a generation that's dead or in their 90s at least. Solo artists/ duos/trios can get a few hundred quid for those kind of gigs so they make sense for working musicians.
Possibly not got to UFO as yet.

I'm guessing I've played very different venues to you lot.  The "bangers" in out set were:

    Bodies - Drowning Pool
    Slither - Velvet Revolver
    Walk - Pantera

Gun's version of Word Up was reasonably successful too.

    oh yes!

    Right up my street.

For that funky thing I'd add

    Runaway Baby - Bruno Mars
    Think - Blues brothers version
    Uptown Funk
    Gimme Some lovin
I should'a loved ya - Narada Michael Walden

  • We do Gimme Some Lovin in our 60s/ mod/ indie band. 3 of the band love it, one of us hates it and I don’t think the crowd are bothered either way :(
