FS: Top Hat EMPLEXADOR killer boutique Marshall clone.

Back in 2012 I was after the ultimate Marshall amp & after a ton of searching I got a Top Hat Emplexador. Hardwired tagstrip construction throughout; not a PCB in sight. Bullet-proof build. This has a voicing switch that brings the second half of a 12AX7 in and out of the preamp so you have both plexi and JCM800 sounds. Sounds incredible when turned up but is VERY loud. I’m a cave player so have downgraded to a small combo. Here are some YouTube vids that show what this amp can do: Rare in the UK so I had to import it. Mine is the Mk. 2 version, has never been gigged, and has been rewired for 240V so no need for step up transformers etc. These are $2800 new. I’m after £1000: PRICE DROP TO £900, which is a lot less than I paid, & a bargain for a serious piece of kit like this. Jesus, there are some amazing amps for sale on this board currently! These Emplexadors are stunning sounding amps, I've had 2 Top Hats and dearly regret selling both, have a bump while I decide if I can warrant buying this or not! ;-)

Cheers pal. What did you own - they're not exactly common this side of the Pond?

I've had a GAS for a Club Royale ever since Dave Hunter's review of the SS rectifier version in the April 2003 issue of Guitar. I'd not really heard of these amps before but after he said it was "put simply, this is the best EL84-based 15W or 20W amp I have played, ever", I've been on the lookout for one. However, they are like rocking horse shit in the UK. In the end, I realised the Emplex was more my sound. Build quality of all of the Top Hat amps is fabulous, from the smallest to the largest.

Funnily enough, I had a 2 x 12 Club Royale for years, picked it up DIRT cheap off eBay and foolishly swapped it for a Bad Cat Cub 2, I've been trying to buy it back off the guy ever since but he's not budging!

I then got a King Royale which was a serious vintage AC30 clone, another really great amp and that one was traded for my all time favourite Bad Cat Black Cat. I wish I still had both of them though, Brian makes some of the best amps available in my opinion.

If only this was a combo! :-(

Do it - you won't regret it if you are after an alpha-plus amp; this is great value for what is on offer.

Sorry - not after trades: I got a Lazy J 20, which is a lot quieter than the Emplex. I have to use pedals for a similar level of Marshallesque dirt though.
