NGD: cheap n cheerful for an evh project

While looking for amps I spotted an olp evh wolfgang type guitar with a floyd.   mm1f I think should be the model.

I sent a silly offer - he accepted - it arrived...

So the paintwork is messy - looks like someone resprayed it,  but it has two seymour duncans and a gotoh floyd rose

It needs a setup but that's ok as the plan is to strip it down and paint some evh stripes.     Just need some time and nice weather as that's 4 project guitars waiting to be finished...

I've spent more on used p/ups several times in the past so i thought it was a fairly low risk -  the neck is quite comfy so I'm looking forward to getting it sorted

No  the  cheaper SE Asia range of musicman types is now Sterling by musicman - I haven't reasearched them so I don't know how they compare to the olp guitars - this one seems very solid, real wood and plays nicely so I would hope the sterlings are ok too.   This won't replace my main guitars but for rough venues/home noodling etc it could end up being very nice

Made a start on stripping it down today -  the pickups are SH6/TB6  duncan distortions,  so that's nice - I haven't tried them before and they may be a little too hot to be my first choice but they should sound ok...    need to stock up on sanding materials before I can go any further...  hopefully tomorrow it'll be bare and ready for the painting to start

^ Yeah they wouldn't be my choice either for that style of guitar (EVH normally used PAFs I think), but at the same time for the price you got it for I wouldn't be complaining either. Worst case scenario I'm guessing you could sell them on separately and put that money into the pickups of your choice and not be out too much.
