So, I was fiddling around on an acoustic, with a capo on the 5th fret, and accidentally fingered this chord:

I'm now wondering where to go next...

Replace the capo with your first finger and shift the shape up or down to wherever sounds good to you. Up a minor 3rd might be a good starting point...

    Or A13sus (E-9/A) - A7b5b13 - D6/9 or

    575775 - 565665 - x5445(4*)

    * the #11 just for a laugh

I'm interested in why the flat 7 isn't mentioned in Asus13 .. I know there must be a technical reason it isn't ?

it's essentially Dmaj over A7  ..... so in open position

From that chord, I'd say you head straight to the 1980s to compose the opening bars of the theme tune to a short lived day time soap opera. Possibly about vets.

Either that or D Maj 9 sounds nice.

Did they ever come out with  this ? (if they didn't - they should have...)

"Status Quo have learnt a fourth chord...hear them play it  at... etc..."

I found this site quite informative: https://www.oolimo.de/gitarrenakkorde/A7sus(13)

It's in German, but google translated it for me automatically:

The A 7sus4(13), or better short A sus13 or A 13sus, is an A 7sus4 chord with an additional sixth ( F# ). Since this sixth is present in addition to the seventh, it counts as a chord extension (tension) and must be written as 13 (a sixth chord such as A 6 therefore contains NO seventh!).
    The A sus13 can also contain a 9 ( B ) at will. It does not therefore have to be written as A 7sus4(9,13) or A sus(9,13).

The A sus13 consists of the tones
    A (1), D (4), E (5), G (7), F# (5) and optionally (but usually included): B (9)
The fifth (5) becomes usually omitted.

If you play a Sus13 with the 9 and omit the fifth, you can also consider it a slash chord: instead of A sus13 you write G maj7/ A ( G maj7 chord with A as the bass note). This point of view also fits the sound and character better.

The A sus13 has a special character , especially when it is played like a G maj7/ A (i.e. with 9 and without a fifth) . One immediately thinks of a brass section. You can also move this chord freely, for example for an intro in which each chord is played one or more bars: Gsus13 Bbsus13 C#sus13 Esus13 or written as slash chords Fmaj7/G Abmaj7/Bb Bmaj7/C# Dmaj7/E Man can also interpret these maj7 chords as maj7(9) = maj9, since the bass note here can be viewed as 9 of the maj7 chord. Voila! It also sounds good with Maj9 chords if you move them around freely!

Of course, the A sus13 can also be used as a substitute for an A 7, as described for the Sus9 chord.
