Chord substitution ?

What's Hot
Hi, I'm getting on a bit,if I see a chord in a song that my fingers find difficult/painfull, can I play a different version of that chord somewhere else on the neck?, must I play a chord near that original chord on the neck?

You can play any version of a chord that tickles your fancy. The “voicing” will be different but it will contain the same ingredients. Play whatever a) sounds good to your ear, and b) is possible

(That’s not substitution by the way; substitution is where you use a totally different chord, like a bII7 chord instead of a V7 chord in a 251 progression.)
Roland said: Scales are primarily a tool for categorising knowledge, not a rule for what can or cannot be played.
Supportact said: [my style is] probably more an accumulation of limitations and bad habits than a 'style'.

Do what ever works for you and remember there really aren't rules in music and even if there are it was the rule breakers
who advance guitar playing. Good luck.

F barre a pain in the ass... Fmaj7
That G to C change causing you grief... Cadd9
    etc.

and, whisper it... a LOT of other people do it as well.
You are the dreamer, and the dream...

A lot of people play partial chords, where the “odd” notes aren’t played
