Great non-guitar solos?

What's Hot
Inspired by @RichAC post about great guitar solos in non guitar songs, how about great non-guitar solos in any type of song?

A couple of my faves:

Keane - Bedshaped. The huge U2 guitar like, delay laden, synth solo starts at 3m 35s. Turned up loud I think it's incredibly emotive and fits the song perfectly.

Chet Baker's trumpet solo on Elvis Costello & The Attractions Shipbuilding. I know Elvis Costello has gone on record to say that Punch The Clock is not his favourite album by some way and he rues adding delay to Chet Baker's solo but it's a lovely solo and I love the album.

Solo at 3m 00s

    Simply The Best sax solo
Roland said: Scales are primarily a tool for categorising knowledge, not a rule for what can or cannot be played.
Supportact said: [my style is] probably more an accumulation of limitations and bad habits than a 'style'.

I have a thing for sax solos in metal/proggy contexts.

Sax solo here starting around 2:55; helps that it's followed by one of my favourite guitar solo entrances ever:

    And another chilled one here:

And finally, this lovely interlude from Tesseract's second album:

  • All four solos on Miles Davis' "So What".
(Davis on Trumpet, John Coltrane on sax, "Cannonball" Adderley on sax, Bill Evans on piano).

Supremely melodic and memorable. You can sing along with pretty much the whole song (in private).

Don't talk politics and don't throw stones. Your royal highnesses.

Steven Wilson's Regret#9 has a killer Guthrie solo to close it, but I absolutely adore Adam Holzman's lead in keys solo, a thing of beauty. The track is one of the all time great instrumentals for me

The keyboard solo in Jump. So much better - and a better fit for the song - than the pointless wankfest guitar solo.

Steely Dan FM - great sax solo - also has a guitar solo and there are two different versions of the out take - But I love the sax solo in this

No shortage of great songs with sax/trumpet solos and probably to many to mention, so for now FM is my favourite

Have to get back to you on great solos from Fender Rhodes and Hammond organ - again many great options
