Was working on me Christmas songs and found a lovely Fm6 chord in 1st inversion: 43353x.

It sounds really shite on its own.

But in this progesssion it’s sublime:

Cmaj7: x3545x
Gm7: 35333
C7b9: x3232x
F: 13321x
Bb13: 6x678x
Am7: 57555x
Fm6: 43353x
C/G: 33555x
F#m9: 242224
B(alt): 76788x
Emaj7(no 3): 07987x
Fm9: 131113
Bb(alt): 65677x
Ebmaj7(no 3): x6876x
Dm7: x5756x
G: 35543x
Cmaj7: x3545x

Amazing how some chords sound good in context.

Roland said: Scales are primarily a tool for categorising knowledge, not a rule for what can or cannot be played.
Supportact said: [my style is] probably more an accumulation of limitations and bad habits than a 'style'.

What song is it? Some nice voicings in there. It's quite nice to listen to them without any context

I think you made a typo here:

    Dm7: x4645x

Try dropping the 5th fret note to fret 3 after you've played it. Then F/G, C maj9.

Could also be described as Ab6, makes more sense to me...

Well it’s Fm in 1st inversion. Harmonically speaking. But yep I know what you mean, what with the bass descending chromatically

I learnt a few jazz pieces rote and it amazes me how some passing chords work and I have no idea why they do. I suppose it's the sort of thing that would make more sense on a piano keyboard
