Only 63 years old. Fame was such a big deal when I was a teenager. Just can't quite believe it.

That's gotta be the wierdest comment in a tribute thread I've read. None of us are going to live forever but few of us get to leave a legacy such as hers. Did you get out of bed the wrong side?

The fact that I remember the lyrics of her biggest hit many decades later suggests that she does indeed leave that legacy.

Her character (and actually she) sang "I'm gonna live forever" in the title track and street scene from the film "Fame". 
Somewhat inappropriate comment, too soon and poor taste. 

She did great work for Hispanic visibility and setting role model standards in the 80s for young Hispanic women.

I was watching something about Brooklyn 99 and how it was seen as groundbreaking by casting two Hispanic women in the main cast. 2013 that came out. Hollywood is slow to change. 

I only know of Irene from her hits but huge hits and 63 gosh is no age. RIP.
