RIP Jet Black

What's Hot
A fair age, but still a shock to those that remember punk/new wave.

  • Jet Black, drummer with The Stranglers, has died after “years of ill health” at the age of 84, his representative confirmed.

The musician, whose real name was Brian John Duffy, had been living in his country home in north Wales close to his friends and family as his health issues became more debilitating.

    RIP Brian.

  • RIP Jet Black - sad news. Big Stranglers fan back in the day. Read Hugh Cornwall's book 'Multitude Of Sins' recently and they did well to emerge from their 'golden years in one piece. Born in 1938. Astonishing.

    RIP Jet.

Away from the hits The Stranglers were a deeply weird band. Those first three albums are brilliant.

RIP Jet. What a band they were!
so if you fancy a reissue of a guitar they never made in a colour they never used then it probably isn't too overpriced.

It's sad news, but I must admit I can't get over how old he was.... older than McCartney, older than anyone in Deep Purple or Yes... he was almost the same generation as Elvis and Jerry Lee Lewis, which just seems bonkers.

    +1

The Raven might be their best album. Gospel According to the Meninblack and La Folie are both great too.

I loved the first album, brings back great memories of the time, an explosion of new and exciting music every week.

I remember them being interviewed by Nicky Horne on Capital one evening.

"A lot of people say you sound like The Doors."

"Doors, what do you mean?" said one of the band.

"Doors, you know, like windows" said another band member.

    "I don't sound like a window."

In my memory there was some swearing in there but that may be wishful thinking.
