"Yellowman - Mister Yellowman is another of mine, pure magic"

    Yup.

Cornershop, When I Was Born For The 7th Time is pretty good too.
It's my go to, never fails album to demonstrate how speaker cable affects sound.
Happy to demo for pizza and beer.

@DarnWeight it is okay to evaluate a recording on its sonics, especially if you are interested in music production. There are lots of ways to listen to and appreciate music
Yeah, but I think in this case, "well produced" might be a better description than "great sounding".  Something can be great sounding without being well produced, which is what I was really getting at.
Ah okay. The "great" thing is just a catchy tagline. I can accept a level of clickbaiting on YouTube, the creators are essentially freelancers at the mercy of an opaque algorithm
    Ain't that the truth!

Mr Beato! Now you’re really spoiling us…..

Edit: Ah, this is just a clip from the (excellent) interview with Kim, Chris Novoselic, and Jack Endino, not a new video unfortunately as I had hoped.

other than Van Halen, there is nothing on that list i'd use as a sonic reference with a producer.

Superunkown has to be in there, he loves that album. Will see if it is now....
    Yep it's there....incredible sounding album
I'll be honest I never liked the sound of that album at all. The whole thing sounds muddy to me and I don't think it got the best of Cornell's vocals. I had bought the Temple of the dog album prior to it, and CC's vocals on that were sooo powerful.

To be honest I haven't played it in 20 years, and my copy is long gone, I should give it a spin again.

I haven't got time for the video but I'd like to see a list.

In my lifetime there were two albums that memorably sounded utterly magnificent on release:

    Peter Gabriel - So
Kate Bush - Hounds of love

  • I'm genuinely struggling to understand how Rage Against The Machine and Metallica's Black Album aren't on there. Near as I can tell, 80-90% of hard rock bands will use some combination of those as the reference sound for mastering their albums.

In fact, I'd probably only agree with three or four on that list.

Best sounding on a hi-fi, right?

    Off that list:
    • The Beach Boys - Pet Sounds is one which gets a lot of mentions, but not on my listening list.
    • Pink Floyd - Dark Side Of The Moon is good, but I prefer Wish You Were Here.
    • Peter Gabriel - So (he has a Naim system).

    My go-to albums for a hi-fi listening:
    • Rush - Moving Pictures (Clockwork Angels is an interesting contrast too, but it needs a really good system!).
    • Level 42 - World Machine.
    • Thunder - Behind Closed Doors.
    • Cozy Powell - Tilt.
    • Kansas - Leftoverture.
    • Crowded House - Temple Of Low Men. (and Woodface and Together Alone!).
    • Billy Squier - Tell The Truth has a couple of good ones.
    • The Blue Nile - Hats gets an occasional listen, as it was a Linn hi-fi stores favourite back when.
    • Jim Lampi - Greazy is a Naim reference disc.
    • System Of A Down - Toxicity is great of you accidentally put on the start too loud!
    • Rammstein - Mutter.

A highly subjective topic. There may be lots of ‘great sounding’ albums of music I don’t like.

If I had to pick a handful of great sounding albums that I like musically, I’d probably go with A Walk Across the Rooftops by The Blue Nile, Grace and Danger by John Martyn, The Colour of Spring by Talk Talk and So by Peter Gabriel.

And Madonna True Blue stand out as great production sounding to me  but what do I know
