Slate VSX headphones??

Can somebody please school me on the concept of Slate Audio VSX headphones?

I was kind of interested in the headline 'ditch your peaky/troughy studio monitors and buy these perfectly balanced mixing headphones‘ until I read about all these additional room/studio environments to buy and download.

How the heck does that idea work?

I thought the whole point of decent mixing monitors (or headphones) was to get a revealing but neutral insight into the music of your mix, not to hear 'the room‘ at all, and surely not to model the 'sound' of the very speakers which the blurb has just described as useless?

Confused...
I think, therefore.... I... ummmm........

There are several of these around now. Waves Abbey Road Studio 3 is one, Embody VR is another, dSoniq Realphones does it too and I'm sure there are more. The USP of the Slate one is that it's supplied with headphones that are supposedly matched to it. TBH I have not personally found them terribly useful for mixing, though I haven't tried the Slate one.
