Florence bass. Looks nice in a Gibsony sort of way. I still gotta try a Cali of some sort.

I like the look of them!

  • Love the aesthetic. Would be worried the body is a bit big for me.

According to their IG, the pickup is a mudbucker but with a clever switching system with a pull pot to make it sound like a proper P.

Hopefully there will be a demo soon.

  • It's such a dinky looking thing. Having spent the last couple of years getting used to a very trad P bass it would be a huge contrast but it looks like fun :D

The demo guy Mark is a big lad so it might be a bit misleading on sizes.

  • Yeah, it's hard to tell. His hands are clearly ridiculous. But the instruments neck-to-body ratio is weird as well

In any case I'm far more likely to buy a Cali with J and/or MM pickups, but I still think this one looks neat :)

I've got 2 Cali's and my Lionel shorty should be with me in April... so then I think I have to look for the next one!

Might well be one of these depending on the money.

I'm playing my £100 shorty a great deal at the moment despite some specs of it being really annoying - like super tight string spacing. If the Lionel suits me as well as the papers specs suggest I'm wondering if I'm going to end up being short scale convert.

I should listen to more JMJ and Talking Heads!

I think Ron Jeremy would have a long scale!

I'm confused by the short scale craze at the moment.

I've owned 30" basses and they lose a lot of note definition. 32" is passable and 33" is fine, but all these new ones are 30" - Too much of a compromise IMO.

The idea is just to get some of that old-school Gibson thump but in a package that’s remotely playable.

I’m guessing it’s also attractive to anyone with smaller hands, which opens builders up to the massive women & kids market

Modern ones do not suffer at all. Construction and string choice is far more important than scale length.

What is the string spacing on your short scale? My Hofner is 14mm, which I find perfect but few if any modern basses have that spec apart from Hofners and I'd really like to find one that has bridge with individually adjustable string lengths for accurate intonation.

    16mm.

My incoming Sandberg will be 19mm.

I have no idea how anyone plays with 14mm. Unless they are playing plectrum only.
