Couriers that will insure guitars?

What's Hot
Does anyone on here have any suggestions for decent couriers that will insure high value guitars? Any help appreciated.

No worries mate, I wrote my first reply in a rush earlier, even forgot the question mark lol.

I think overland is a ‘broker’ of sorts, probably the wrong terminology but when I used them before I could select from a few well known actual carriers, I think apc, ups or the like, but overland have their own policy included which covers insurance.

See this thread as the OP is from Overland themselves so would be better poised to explain etc but a few members been using them, including myself years ago when I shipped a £600 ish guitar to Guitarguitar (I sold one to them).

  • I use the courier I want, then insure separately with secursus .  Been great sending high value guitars all over the world.

Especially useful if importing, as the stated value for the courier can be different (lower) to the separate (higher) insurance contract value….and cost to insure on high value items is normally a lot cheaper than the courier insurance.  Just make sure to read the T&c’s on packing and photos/videos required of packing to ensure insurance is valid.

^ Yep I've used Secursus.  I guess you'll only find out how good their (or anyone else's) cover holds up when you're in the unfortunate position of having to claim... which mercifully I haven't been.

Isn't the best policy to just pack it well?

They can't run over it with a forklift and then say "sorry. But, because it's a guitar we aren't liable. If it were full scale model of a guitar, but not actually a guitar, we'd fork out for you"

The couriers should be paying the insurance in case they damage your guitar, not the other way around.

A bit late to this but I had a bit of a nightmare with secursus. Sent a guitar that broke at the neck heel and they were only interested in paying the repair value, rather than replacement cost. Thankfully I got a repair quote from gibson USA which exceeded the value so submitted that. They agreed to pay out but only if the guitar was shipped to France, which is not detailed in their T&C, where they are based, by me. I decided to insure that parcel as well, because if it was lost they wouldn't repay we, and then they got upset that I had insured it at value rather than £0. They also asked me to say it was a gift on the import declaration, which I didn't because I'm pretty sure that counts as fraud. It got stuck in customs because they refused to pay the customs charges and I was forced to pay the custom fees regardlesa for it to to me because of DHL's policies (I think, might have been another company). I did get my cost back but not less the custom fees, so I wouldn't recommend them. Also, them being a French company means you have no practical way to challenge what they say.

So as a thank you to all of you, our insurance to the Fretboard members is 1.2% of the value. It is our own insurance, specifically for the music industry and covers loss or damage to guitars, amps and instruments and they can be sent in a hard case or guitar box, just well packed please.
