I've just picked up one of these new Ibanez multiscale 6 string basses. A BTB806MS-TGF.
It's an absolutely amazing beast of a bass with a scale length of 37 inches on the bottom B string.
Because it is multiscale the tension is pretty consistent  across all the strings and that bottom B is tight and responsive.
I used to own a Peavey 6 string Grind bass and that was not fun to play, the bottom string was flubby as hell and being passive the instrument was lifeless. This Ibanez is like from a different bass planet.
I used to think multiscale basses were a bit of a gimmick, but going by this instrument, I've been proved wrong.

Crikey! Wouldn’t you rather have a P with flatwounds..? :D

(not my thing but I bet it’s awesome at what it does!)

I've actually got one, a 1978 fretless Precision with black nylon flatwounds on it.  :)

That looks every inch "The Beast". I'd like to have a go on that someday, but haven't got a clue what I'd play on it - it's a fitting companion to a 78 P Bass. Could have a lot of fun with one of thoose and a drummer. HNBD!!

  • I admire manufacturers who genuinely push things forward, even if it's not necessarily my proverbial cup of tea. However it seems like with modern kit such as multiscale guitars and now basses, there's some unwritten rule that they also all have to be fugly as hell...what's that all about?

  • Looks great! I’d love to try one of these. I’ve got an NG 5 string and I’m a definite convert to the 37” low B.
