It is turning out to be a bad day for veteran colonial singer-songwriters. Broderick Smith a few hours ago and now Gordon Lightfoot. He was 84.

Oh man!  By horrible coincidence I was just sitting in work during a quiet spell with my acoustic playing and singing Christian Island :(

An under-rated artist and songwriter - Bob Dylan was a big fan. I saw him live in Toronto in 1999 - his voice was already pretty shot by that point but it was still a great gig. RIP Gordie.

    RIP,   crackin singer/songwriter.

used to do Cotton Jenny in the band, back in the day..........will be getting the box out and playing that later along with Daylight Katy (if I can remember it), and of course Sundown...........  all take me straight back to a good place in my life

just because you don't, doesn't mean you can't

Good innings him though. Never really had the success outside of Canada that he deserved, despite having artists such as Elvis & Bob Dylan sing his songs... but still, became a Canadian icon and will forever be one.

'Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald' is an epic...

Those Midnight Special performances are brilliant.

To be honest given the issues he had, he's done very well indeed.

Great singer/songwriter.  If You Could Read My Mind in particular is a fantastic song.

    RIP.

    R.I.P.
He was a great artist and songwriter IMO.  Saw him once back in the 70s.

That's the one that held me spellbound as a kid. Such storytelling in a song. I only found out it was a true story a few years ago.

I watched Beato's analysis of this morning.

I should try and learn this.
