Tony Doyle was a great rider when I was getting into cycling in the 80s. Hugely successful on the track, and all done without the well-funded British Cycling machine of recent years. Always came across as a nice guy as well.

That's a bit of a shocker. He was a great cyclist in his day. I remember often seeing him on TV back then. Not the smoothest of riders, he absolutely gave it everything. Twice world pursuit champion!

Pancreatic cancer is a bastard, a guy in his 50s at work got it, he was fit, healthy and slim but gone in 3 months.

I remember a feature on one of his track bikes in Cycling Weekly many years ago - a strut had been clamped between the top tube and the underside of the saddle nose in an attempt to stop the saddle flexing as Tony put the power down in the bankings!
