Seen the price of those Beetle basses? Strewth!
Seen the craftsmanship that goes into the carved from solid examples? (As opposed to the steamed and pressed laminate versions.)
You say, atom bomb. I say, tin of corned beef.

    You guys…

    This thing is AWESOME.

I have not bought it, but I’m tempted…

I’m properly tempted, honestly. The good news is I liked this one way more than the $24k P bass I also tried…

I totally get why these get hate online - if you’re only played the single pickup version then you’ll come away quite rightly complaining that it only has 2 sounds - overly plinky and an overwhelming WHOMP (I guess that’s where “mudbucker” comes from). But the twin version has some really useable sounds and an incredible vibe.

I need to get my hands on a Rickenbacker while I’m here as well. Good opportunity to play a load of stuff I can’t normally get access to :)

I sold one of these earlier this year. It was a lovely old thing but the fully hollow body meant that it howled with feedback at gigging volumes.

Mine is semi-acoustic but it doesn't have any f-holes, so it doesn't feed back - Worth trying some plugs out (and they're easy to make by yourself too).

Video is an Allen Woody converted into a mudbucker only bass.

Surely just shy of a month is enough for this to be a NBD op?

Guild Starfire Shortscales are the business if you want that sound.

I borrowed an Eko Florentine for songwriters demos about 35 years ago and it sounded pretty good. My mate had cut a square hole in it so it could be heard acoustically.

The bridge was held in place by the strings so was a nightmare to have anything like correct intonation (in those days I plodded on root notes on E or A strings).

Appeared to sound fine clean or crunchy (too long ago and I don't remember much about it).

I’ve got a Gretsch G5440 and I love it, sounds fantastic and plays better than any bass I’ve ever had. Bought it as a bit of fun and mainly because I like the way it looked but it’s actually given me a completely new lease of life playing with people - I’m usually a guitarist. I’ve only used it on recording projects so far so I can’t attest to its live performance, but it looks good, sounds good and it’s great to play. Also very light!

Bah! If that was a P I'd genuinely be tempted.

Though maybe that gives me an idea... !
